Thoska
How much is left?
Hold your Thoska to your phone and the app shows your balance. No machine, no queue, even in the middle of a lecture.
Reading
Card on, balance up.
Your phone reads the Thoska via NFC, a radio connection over a few centimetres. It takes about a second.
How it works
- Tap Thoska at the bottom.
- Tap Read Thoska.
- Hold the card to your phone until “Balance updated” appears.
Your balance stays on your phone only. The app doesn't send it anywhere.
Where to hold it
Finding the right spot.
The NFC reader isn't in the same place on every phone.
- iPhone: hold the card to the top edge, where the camera is
- Android: hold the card flat against the back, usually in the middle
- Thick cases or other cards in a phone wallet can get in the way
History
Where did my money go?
Every time you read your Thoska, the app remembers the balance. That builds your history: how much you spent in two weeks or three months, and when you topped up.
- Spent in this period at a glance
- Bar chart: balance in blue, top-ups in green
- List of all readings with the last transaction
The more often you read your card, the more accurate the history. The app only sees what's stored on the card – not every single payment.
Frequently asked questions
Which phones can read the Thoska?
Any phone with NFC. That's every current iPhone and most Android phones. On Android, NFC needs to be switched on in the settings.
Can I top up my Thoska with the app?
No. The app only reads your balance, it doesn't change anything on the card. Top up at the machines as before.
Reading doesn't work. What can I do?
Hold the card still and a little longer at the right spot (see above). Take it out of your wallet or case if other cards are in there with it.
On Android: check that NFC is switched on in the settings.
Is my balance sent anywhere?
No. Your balance and history are stored on your phone only. There's no account and no server for it.
Why isn't my balance on the home screen?
Because it changes every time you pay, without the app knowing. On the home screen it would soon be wrong. You see the real amount after reading your card.
